I was born
in Indianapolis, Indiana in late 1978 and have resided in central
Indiana
ever since. My parents, Larry and Linda, are faithful members of
the Lord’s church meeting in Plainfield, Indiana where I was a member
for
most of my life. While growing up in Plainfield, my parents and a
host of faithful men and women helped teach me about God’s Word and the
human need to render obedience to that Word. Early on, I was
taught
that dedication to God was more important than any other thing in
life.
Serving God was to be a priority in my life and I will forever be
thankful
to my parents for teaching me this valuable lesson (Matthew 6:24).
While in high school, I began to seek and take advantage of
opportunities
to preach the gospel throughout Indiana. I will always be
thankful
to the brethren who provided me opportunities to preach and in doing
so,
meet so many wonderful saints. In 1997, I entered Wabash College
in Crawfordsville, Indiana and while in school, began working with the
Southside church of Christ.
After graduation in 2001, I was fortunate to be hired to teach high
school
social studies in Crawfordsville and thus, was able to continue working
with the fine Christians at the Southside church of Christ.
Preaching the gospel is the most important work that I do (2 Timothy
4:2).
In a religious world filled with so much confusion and with so many
people
uncertain and troubled, the opportunity to preach that which will save
is one that I readily welcome (Romans 1:16). I’ve spent the
greater
part of my life watching men preach the gospel and having great respect
for these servants of God. Yet, I have an even deeper
appreciation
for those who preached the gospel in the most difficult days
immediately
following our Lord’s ascension to heaven.
The thought of a “final” sermon is certainly a valuable one for any
preacher
to ponder. In that final sermon, I would address our greatest
goal
– heaven. Paul says that, “our citizenship is in heaven”
(Philippians
3:20). Jesus taught that we are to “lay up … treasures in heaven”
(Matthew 6:20). We need to constantly remember that our most
important
role in this life is to “fear God and keep His commandments,” for
without
this, we will miss out on heaven (Ecclesiastes 12:13).
